RUSPER MODEL RAILWAY CLUB

The main lines head north to Russ Hill and the slow lines veer off east to Newdigate Road on exit from the station. Fast trains from Charlwood and Russ Hill are normally routed through Platforms 1 & 2 with slower locals and freight from Charlwood and Newdigate Road passing through platforms 3 & 4. On the ‘Down’ slow line there is an avoiding line, a goods loop and a medium sized goods yard. Trains can transfer from slow to fast and vice versa via the emergency crossovers at the ‘Up’ end of the station but most of the slow trains travel to and from Newdigate Road.

Adding to this general operational interest, the timetables include some “surprises” in the form of Engineering works and track occupations. When this happens on the line to Russ Hill fast trains will shunt forward beyond the crossover, then reverse onto the ‘Down’ fast in order to continue the journey. Any slow trains destined for Russ Hill will also use the crossover from ‘Up’ slow to ‘Down’ fast.  Both fast and slow trains proceed wrong line under bell code 2-3-3 followed by the normal code for that train until “Line Clear” is given by the signalbox in advance.
